I had thought that since the boating world is so friendly that the camping world would be the same. Maybe it is because it is winter and most folks (including us) don't go out but we just haven't met or talked to very many people. Some of them won't even speak when we are walking Jake. And it gets dark early. So I am hopeful for the future. I love meeting new people from all over the country.
It was still a very nice afternoon when I got home from work yesterday so we were sitting outside in the brown grass and dirt facing the swings and the dog run. (yes, they have a dog run here - pretty cool, huh?) A woman with four - yes FOUR little bitty dogs came walking by and those dogs really grabbed Jake's attention! And mine.
They were so cute, I just had to go talk to her about them. Let's see, there was a regular chihuahua, a long haired chihuahua, a jack russell-chihuahua mix and a yorkie-maltese mix. They were all so, so cute! But yap, yap, yap! They were from Michigan and here on a two week vacation. I would leave Michigan this time of year too!
So, for a few minutes I had a new best friend. It was fun!

Oh, I am going to be LOVIN' this, Suzie. Just one more way to be connected to your life! When our kids were little, we went camping almost every weekend (living in Colorado that is a no-brainer!) We started out, the six of us (the kids were real little) camping with a hatch back Nova and a pup tent. Dale and I would pitch the pup tent just outside the hatchback of the car, and we would lay all three kids down in the back of the hatch back, that turned into a station-wagon type area. We would wash them every morning in a bowl with water from the creek we were by. THEN we went fancy and bought my parents used truck and camper....we were in heaven. We even drove to Disneyland a couple of years in a row, with the kids in the back of the camper. I SHUTTER TODAY AT THOSE TWO SCENARIOS THAT I JUST EXPLAINED. I would NEVER put kids in a car when we were in a tent, nor let our children ride in the camper from Denver to California. What were we thinking! So after a few years we were able to buy a 22 foot Wilderness Trailer that had a bathroom with a shower! What fun times we had with that!! When we had the job opportunity to move to Pittsburgh, we brought the trailer with us. Actually I drove a large van, with all four kids, the dog and the gerbil, pulling the 22 ft trailer from Denver to Pittsburgh, while Dale drove the large moving van. We parked the trailer in our driveway in Pittsburgh, and never used it again. We found that camping in Pittsburgh is nothing like camping in the mountains of Colorado. And the kids at that time were getting into their individual specialties of things they liked to do. We hauled the trailer back to Colorado, as that was a much better market to try to sell it. It sold, I cried! But lots of GOOD memories! The children all still talk about those camping days today.
